Basic facts about Croatia
Croatia, official name: Republic of Croatia (Republika Hrvatska), is a country in Europe. It has common borders with Slovenia and Hungary in the north, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro to the east in the far south. In the west and southwest of the Adriatic Sea forms a natural border. Capital and seat of government, with about one million inhabitants is Zagreb, which is also an important transport hub and the commercial and academic center of the state.
Coastline is 5,835.3 km, of which 4,058 km comprise the coastlines of islands, solitary rocks and reefs. Number of islands, solitary rocks and reefs: 1,185; the largest islands are Cres and Krk; there are 47 inhabited islands.
