What to see on Island Krk
On the island Krk is situated ten villages: Omisalj, Njivice, Malinska, city Krk, Punat, Baska, Vrbnik, Dobrinj, Silo and Klimno.
Omisalj is placed on northwest side of the island Krk. Because of their positions, Omisalj is domiciled even thousands of years ago and was first mentioned 1153rd year. Today Omisalj is glagolic and cultural center. Be sure to visit local Lapidary, a collection of stone monuments that provide insight into the history of Omisalj. Also in Omisalj visit the parish church of the Assumption from the 1213th, the remains of an early Christian basilica from the 5th century and Roman municipality Fulfinum.
Njivice are a tourist resort near Omisalj. Not far from Njivice is one of two lakes on the island. Beautiful beaches and gastronomy of the place will not leave you indifferent.
Malinska is one of the most famous resorts on the island because of the developed tourism and many beautiful beaches. Near Malinska is the place Porat, where you can visit the monastery of the Franciscan Third Glagolitic Order. In the monastery there is a museum with a collection of sacred and precious exhibits about the life and tradition of this city. In addition to the monastery is the Church of St.. Mary Magdalene.
City Krk is the administrative, political, economic and religious center of the island. In the center of town there is a religious complex of the Cathedral of the Assumption from the 5th century, the church of st. Quirin, protector of the city in which is the exibition of religious items. Worth visiting is Square Kamplin with Frankopan fortress and a tower from the 12th century, church of St. Grisogono (5th century) and St. Donat (12th century) near the town of Krk.
Punat is one of the greatest Croatian nautical center, and center island of olive farming. In the Punat bay is island Kosljun on which is a monastery where live monks. There is also a valuable collection gathered over the centuries.
Baska is located in the southeast of the island and is very well known tourist destination because of its sandy beach with sand the length of 1800m. 2 km from the city is an early church of Sts. Lucy Jurandvor in which id the Baska tablet, the most important monument of Croatian Glagolitic script was written around 1100 year. Be sure to visit the parish church Trojstvo from the 18th Century and Heritage Museum in the immediate vicinity.
Vrbnik like Baska is a very famous place for its history of Glagolitic. In Vrbnik is the parish church of the Assumption from the 1325th in which is the tower from the 16th century and inside is museum of artistic identity of Vrbnik. In the library from Vitezovic family from 1898. is a collection of missals, breviaries and very known Atlas „Scolasticus et itinerarius“.
In addition to history, Vrbnik is very known place because of very high quality winemaking and wine Zlahtina.
Dobrinj is situated on the eastern side of the island Krk on a small hill. In Dobrinj visit gallery Infeld, parish church st. Stephen from 1100. , the ethnographic collection of the island and an early church in the village of Sveti Vid from 1100. year.
Silo is a tourist resort on the north side of the island. Because of its sandy beaches and beautiful bays is ideal place for swimming, sunbathing and nudity.
Klimno is a tourist resort on the eastern side of the island of Krk. There is a chapel of St. Clement from 1381. year with a Glagolitic inscription. Klimno is also a famous destination for boaters in croatian nautical tourism.
