Along the western Istrian coast there are several groups of islands, among which the most interesting, the largest and most developed Brijuni group of 14 islands and islets area 7.4 km2. The current boundaries of the National Park established 1999th include the land and surrounding sea from the seabed and the total area of 33.9 km2. Length of coastline of the island is 46.8 kilometers. Of this area Veliki Brijun (25.9 km) and Mali Brijun (8.3 km).

Paklenica National Park covers an area of the coastal slope of southern Velebit, just above the village Marasovic to the highest mountain peaks: Vaganski vrh, Babin vrh, Holy Mountain. On a relatively small area facing the very richness of geomorphological phenomena and shapes, varied flora and fauna, beautiful landscapes and unspoiled nature.

North Velebit National Park was declared 09.06.1999. year. The area was declared a national park because of the pronounced diversity of karst phenomena, the wealth of wildlife and extraordinary natural beauty on a relatively small area. Area of the park is 109 km2 and is located within the same strict reserve Hajducki and Rozanski hips, which is the specific geomorphologic phenomenon which has so far discovered more than 150 caves, of which most of Luke's cave, one of the deepest in the world in general, discovered in 1999 . year.

The park is named after the river Krka, which is part of the park. National Park is located in central Dalmatia downstream from Miljevci, and only a few kilometers northeast of city Sibenik.
