Basic facts about Crikvenica
Crikvenica is situated in the Kvarner bay of the Adriatic Sea, 33 kilometers away from city Rijeka, a major traffic junction and the center of Primorsko-Goranska County.
The whole town of Crikvenica is in fact a riviera with a row of almost connected small tourist resorts: Selce, Crikvenica, Dramalj and Jadranovo.
The characteristic climate in this region are dry, sunny and pleasantly warm summers and mild winters with a healthy, locally conditioned system of winds.

History about Crikvenica
Crikvenica has been inhabited since prehistoric times as evidenced by numerous archaeological finds jewelry, spears and axes. In areas where Crikvenica is not yet urbanized, can be found prehistoric graves.
Crikvenica is considered to be the old village of Kotor, situated on top of a nearby hill of the same name. From Romans remained name Ad turres, and by the arrival of the Croats in this area translated as Kod Tor (by the towers).
Ad Turres was a popular place on the road between Italy and Dalmatia. After some time without wars, the Romans in the area started to build villas whose remains can still be seen in the bays Selce and Jadranovo.
In the 8th century these areas are inhabited by Croats and in todays Vinodol thay organized his parish, which consisted of free municipalities. In a new country their bring spiritual and material culture, of whose achievements witnessed exceptional examples of personal equipment and jewelry found in the necropolis Strance - Gorica near Crikvenica. They practiced agriculture, cattle breeding and fishing, and the current population accepted the Roman art of vine cultivation and the Latin name for himself fertile valley, Vallis vinearia, translated into Croatian Vinodol, Valley wines. Vinodol in earlier times was called not only the valley, as today, but a much wider area, including areas along the coast.
In the Middle Ages, today's Crikvenica premises belonged to the parish Vinodol which wad almost 450 years ruled by the Krk princes known as Frankopans. In 1225th the nobles family comes into possession of the Parish Vinodol and government it until the executions of Croatian noblemen Petar Zrinski and Frana Krsto Frankopan in Wiener Neustadt 1671st year.
In the framework of the princes Frankapans, and thanks to free people of Vinodol towns, in 1288th was created The Vinodolski law. This is the first legal document in Croatia and one of the oldest in Europe, created at a time when much of Europe still widely known as barbaric. The Vinodolski law is applied in the area Vinodol Parish, and was written in the national language and the Croatian script - Glagolitic.
Founder of modern Crikvenica considered Prince Nikola IV. Frankopan. He in 1412th year built a monastery for monks of St. Pavao Pustinjak at the river Dubracina by the sea. Monastic building connected the surrounding fishing villages and became the center of public and cultural life.
