Brela is situated about 15 kilometers north-west of Makarska. Because of the dense pine forests and long sandy beaches and fresh water, for decades Brela has had an important role in Makarska Riviera tourism.The town is situated on the coast between a mountain Bikovo and the island of Brac. Brela is unique in its beauty with beautiful beaches, pine forests and crystal blue sea. The climate is Mediterranean like most towns on the Croatian coast.
History about Brela
When we talk about the history of Brela, we must go through during the past 2 millennia. With this beautiful landscape are linked a number of attractions since ancient times. Therefore not surprising that the first patron of the Adriatic oasis, ancient Berylliae, is Silvan, Illyrian-Roman god of forests and untouched nature.

Byzantine emperor Constantine VII Profirogenot mentioned this place in his letter in 10th century. Brela offer a rich cultural heritage, there were found a necropolis of Ilirian origin as well as tombs from the Roman period.
The most interesting historical monument is a relief (II. or III. century), which represents the god of Illyrian Silvan made in Srecko Filipovic barn in Brela-Soline. In one hand sword, which symbolizes the cult of pastoral agriculture. Silvans cult was especially worshiped by Illyrian tribes of Dalmatia.
