City of Rijeka is the center of Primorsko-Goranska County with 305.000 residents. Primorsko-Goranska County is a combination of sea and mountains. History of Rijeka
Tarsatica - Roman settlement on the territory of today's Old Town in the center, was first mentioned in 180th BC after the Roman legions defeated the Illyrian pirates, native to this region.
In the 7th century, the Croats settled area of Tarsat. In this centura Croats war against the Franks, Count Erich, a favorite of Karlo the Great, died on the slopes of Trsat in 799th year.
In the 12th century, for the first time is mentioned Trsat on the settlement of Liburnian village Tarsate, and Rijeka, the Roman town Tarsatika.
In the 13th century on the layers of history, is emerging new village REKA (River), SV. VIDA (St. Veit), a city with gates, towers, streets, squares.
City of Rijeka is changing masters: Dynasty Devin, Frankopani and counts Walsee.
In XVII. century in Rijeka starts the development of manufactures, commerce, art and education (1627th established Jesuit High School, third and first in Croatia on the Adriatic coast, continuing to the present)and Rijeka starts building in Baroque style.

The XVIII. c. exactly 1719th The city of Rijeka was declared a free port, developed industry, marine, craft. 1725th year built the first roads that linked Vienna to the Adriatic Sea (Carolina).
1870th administration of the town Rijeka is under Hungary government.
1924th The river is annexed to the Kingdom of Italy and the Kingdom of SHS Susak.
At the end of World War II, the city of Rijeka was returned to Croatia in year 1947th.
